Focus

Who is taking part?

  • Festival of sport: approximately 750 students in Years 7, 8 and 9.
  • Kent School Games Finals: Leigh Academy students representing Dartford in swimming, futsal, table tennis, volleyball, athletics and trampolining.
  • World Cup themed activities: 1000 Students from Year 7 through to sixth form.

What is planned? Festival of sport – Tuesday 29, Wednesday 30 June and Thursday 1 July

  • Each of the three days will involve a specific year group participating in a carousel of sporting activities on each day.
  • 240 students will be led by sports leaders and a member of the PE department. The morning activities will include kwik cricket, ultimate Frisbee, capture the flag and t-ball. This will be followed by an intra-school rounders competition with students split into eight teams, with an emphasis on fair play and competition.
  • The afternoon activities include an ‘It's a Knockout’ competition with students participating in teams linked to the football World Cup. The Olympic and Paralympic values will be on display on t-shirts and banners, and reinforced throughout the day.
  • Students will participate in 24 teams linked to the World Cup. Each team of 10 students will compete in a variety of fun activities with the aim of lifting the trophy at the end of the day.

Kent School Games and Kent School Disability Games Finals – Monday 30 June, Thursday 1 and Saturday 3 July

  • Students who have qualified to represent Dartford have been invited to an opening ceremony with team building activities and guest speakers.
  • The finals will take place at various places across Canterbury, with approximately 40 students from Leigh Academy selected or having qualified for the finals.
  • Both able bodied and disabled students will represent the Dartford School Sport Partnership. Several students with auditory, visual or physical disabilities will be involved in competitions.

World Cup themed activities – all week

  • Themed assemblies to outline the history of the football World Cup.
  • Tutor time activities to explore the key concepts of friendship, excellence and respect.
