Holy Cross School Sport Partnership

Celebrating the work of the SSP and encouraging mass participation during Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week

Focus

  • Using the Olympic and Paralympic Games as an inspiration to encourage pupils of all ages to get involved in a week of physical activity, competition and fun.
  • Celebrate the work of the SSP.

Who is taking part?

  • All primary (41) and secondary schools, approximately 3500 pupils from Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3.

What is planned?

  • Monday 28 June: a SSP-wide giant Wake and Shake routine involving all primary schools in the partnership.
  • Thursday 1 July: Inclusion Athletics Day to provide Key Stage 2 and 3 pupils with an opportunity to try a Paralympic sport.
  • Friday 2 July: Skip 4 Life mass participation skipping event supported by local radio station, Rock FM. This Lancashire-wide event involves 3500 pupils. At 12.20pm, Rock FM will play a song (voted for by participants) during which pupils will simultaneously skip for three minutes. The event has a virtual intra-school competition format, with pupils from each school competing against one another. Other SSPs from the north west of England will also be taking part.
  • We plan to run a press/MP interface day to maximise the local press coverage and demonstrate the range of work taking place in the local area.

Schools across the SSP will also be running a range of events:

  • Bishop Rawstorne High School is focusing on providing new experiences for pupils, for example taking Year 7 and 8 pupils climbing. Defend UK are coming into the school to offer self-defence and martial arts training to Key Stage 3 and 4 pupils.
  • Holy Cross Sports College is running a range of mass participation events including tug of war and football challenges. Lessons based around the Olympic and Paralympic values are planned and every student will complete a sports pledge. Young leaders from the school will be supporting primary schools to deliver activity.
