Pippins Primary School
An Olympian in our school: getting pupils inspired by sport and the Olympic and Paralympic Games
Focus
- To get all Key Stage 2 pupils involved in sport and physical activity.
- Enable pupils to have fun attempting new and exciting events.
Who took part?
- Approximately 110 Key Stage 2 pupils.
What happened?
- Using the Lloyds TSB website and experience from the previous year’s activities, we planned a full program of different activities.
- The week began with an opening ceremony, featuring the school dance club, ‘funky feet and funky street’ performing a routine using the Lloyds TSB bank theme tune from the promotional video.
- Events such as a 5-a-side football tournament and the Pippins Olympic obstacle course took place, with each house competing against one another for points.
- On the final day of the week, Olympic silver medallist Heather Fell visited the school. She talked to the children in assembly about her event, pentathlon, and showed some of her fencing equipment.
- After this exciting and inspiring visit, the children took part in the Pippins Olympic finals which parents came to watch. We held the finals for the Wellington boot throw, the target game, boules, obstacle course and sprints.
- At a ceremony to close the week, the winning house was announced and prizes were given out to children selected from each class. The children who were picked had shown various qualities during the week. Each child received a Lloyds TSB certificate for taking part.
What was the impact?
- Great excitement amongst pupils and staff for the duration of the week.
- The visit of an Olympian inspired and motivated pupils, staff and parents.
- It was a superb week of sport and fun!
